Hamilton

Why see Hamilton?

Do Not Throw Away Your Shot

It's the musical experience that bowled over Broadway, an all-out smash-hit epic that traverses the life of one Alexander Hamilton, one of America's Founding Fathers who took on the might of the British and won.

Created by Tony, Grammy, and Emmy winner wunderkind Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights) this razor-sharp musical mixes classic theatre, spoken word, fresh hip-hop and whip-smart writing to build a picture of the incredible visionary and the tumultuous times in which he lived. In recognition of its landmark status, it was awarded the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and scooped 11 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Score and many, many more.

So, Who Is Hamilton?

Credited with being one of America's Founding Fathers and promoters of the U.S. Constitution, the extraordinary life of Alexander Hamilton saw the man rise from humble beginnings as an orphan in the West Indies to one of the most powerful men in George Washington's cabinet. But on the way, he had to contend with many obstacles, a career fraught with drama and intrigue, sex scandals, warring loyalists, and much more until finally meeting his end in a duel with one of his closest allies...

Did You Know?

Among his many achievements, Hamilton founded the New York Post, which would become the oldest newspaper in America to have been published continuously as a daily.

Breathtaking

Saw Hamilton at the Hippodrome and all I can say is wow. What an amazing performance from start to finish. The whole cast were incredible. Only negative was lack of legroom in the venue (Hippodrome). ... Read more

AWESOME

I very quickly became obsessed with the original, staring the lyrical genius Lin Miranda Manuel, so I wasn't sure what to expect of the English version. I was blown away by the Birmingham production! The actor who played Hamilton was incredible! He was absolutely brilliant as was the actor to played Eliza!!! Oh my life! the emotions that she was able to convey via her acting and incredible voice, brought me close to tears. King George! Mulligan! Levens, Lafayette, Peggy/ the man's wife,Washington the dancers - singers were all FANTASTIC! BUR, Our performance had a stand in whose first costume didn't fit him. It might be an idea to leave the buttons undone. Initially his performance lacked emotion although his voice was incredible, but as the play developed, this improved. His, 'In the room where it happened' performance was exceptional! Angelica's voice was awesome, but her acting, disappointing. It lacked the emotion required to adequately portray her story. An off day maybe?? ... Read more

Amazing musical, some disappointing cast.

Have seen the show in London and when it was on Disney + so know the show well and the genius of the overall show means it still gets 4 stars from me! However, there were some very poor castings and it ruined a couple of my favourite songs. Angelica seemed bored and was so lacklustre. Her vocals and annunciation were so poor if you didn't know the words you would not follow it at all! Eliza was good when she had control but occasionally sounded a bit shouty and over the top. Male castings a lot more successful in my opinion. ... Read more
